Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
An important representative said the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
